For Her Majesty Queen Ann of Trowbridge Near Glouchester
Oh! maiden fair with firey hair
and grace and beauty shone,
put forth your hand, remove the stone
retrieve me from this lair.
~
For by your spell it's here I stay
in deep and dark recess,
and though my Queen knows what is best
release these bonds I pray.
~
For since day one I've served the call,
knightly promises kept.
And when required I have not slept
when sent past castle walls.
~
This vexing spell, unknown to you
causes great grief and woe.
But you're the Queen and even so
you do what you must do.
~
Make this knight respect the Queen,
give him some test by fire.
You will find his want and desire
are true as ever seen.
~
And when this noble task is through
and my victory won,
I'll return before setting sun
and do it all again for you.
~
I love my Queen as well you know,
I'm at your beck and call.
I shall not stumble, shall not fall,
my love, I pray still shows.
~
This knight his next command awaits,
alas! from whence it hail.
Slaying dragons, finding the Grail,
or simply guarding the gate.
~ Amen
